Eat, Drink and Be Merry with Feast Down East

Celebrating the bounty of Southeastern North Carolina is central to Feast Down East’s mission, and at this time of year, there’s no better way to honor the flavors of the coast than with an oyster roast.
Feast Down East’s oyster roast fundraiser will take place on Dec. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Station No. 2, a former fire station-turned-event venue on South Fifth Avenue. The event will feature Lucy Bea oysters and all the fixings from Rx Chicken & Oysters, as well as Rx’s smoked fish dip and pimento cheese and smoked ham biscuits. Libations will be provided by Mother Earth Brewing and Tito’s Vodka.
“Rx Chicken & Oysters has been one of the longest and most committed restaurant customers since the inception of the Feast Down East Food Hub,” said Feast Down East (FDE) executive director Jordyn Appel-Hughes. “The relationship between Rx Chicken & Oysters and Feast Down East has been immensely impactful in supporting farm-to-fork and curating delicious and creative locally sourced dishes.”
Appel-Hughes said the fundraiser helps advance FDE’s mission of building a healthier, more vibrant Southeastern North Carolina by supporting local farmers and ensuring fresh, affordable food is available in all communities.
“As a nonprofit, we work tirelessly to provide local farmers with the resources they need to succeed, while also addressing food insecurity through programs like our Local Motive Mobile Farmers’ Market, Food Rx and Farmers Fighting Hunger,” said Appel-Hughes.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the valuable work Feast Down East is doing as well as hear from marine biologist and estuary expert Byron Toothman. Toothman works with the N.C. National Estuarine Research Reserve and will discuss the vital role oysters play in North Carolina’s marine ecosystem and the importance of healthy estuaries.
Also on tap for the evening, live music from The Noseeums and a silent auction featuring tickets to a wide variety of local events and experiences.
Tickets are $75 and include all food and one drink ticket.
