Jennifer Rigard and Yesenia Leon are the dynamic duo behind Pier 33’s newest restaurant, celebrating Latin flavors and the beauty of life and culture. This is embodied in the restaurant’s motto, “La vida es bonita” or “Life is beautiful.”

“We picked the name Bonita because it’s feminine, which is a departure from the traditionally masculine-centered names of many Mexican restaurants,” Rigard said. “We wanted something that reflected both the beauty of life and the strength of women.”

The restaurant’s menu is a celebration of flavors from across Latin America and many of the dishes offer a fresh new take on traditional preparations. From Colombian arepas and tostones to Peruvian ceviche and even sushi — a nod to the influence of Japanese immigrants on Peruvian cuisine — Bonita offers a mix of familiar and adventurous dishes.
